QXMC
The Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation (QXMC) board is pleased to announce a contribution of $319,926.21 for community development in Squirrel Cove.
When QXMC was created, Klahoose First Nation provided $200,000 of start-up capital. Through the success of some of our ventures, most notably Klahoose Forestry Limited Partnership (KFLP), we are now in a position to self finance other economic development ventures, as well as provide funding for community projects.
On September 21, 2010, the QXMC board authorized payback of the $200,000 plus $29,212.33 in interest. In addition KFLP has been paying a $1.00 per cubic meter road use charge for transporting logs over IR #1 Yekwamen (Toba Inlet). To date this amounts to $90,713.88.
For Klahoose council this money comes at a key time as we upgrade our roads and work to complete the new building.
We're coming up on a year since Tree Farm Licence 10 was converted into the Klahoose Community Forest Agreement so its timely we report on our forestry activities in Toba and some of the options the board is able to consider given the financial success of this venture. There is also some exciting developments in our quest to break into Geoduck Aquaculture.
Look for more QXMC updates and announcements over the coming weeks.
